E-Training and Terrorism

In 2005, training videos surfaced that were directed towards terrorists. One video gave implicit instructions on how to build a mine that could detonate through sheet metal. Another video showed the viewer how to make gunpowder. Yet another gave step by step instructions on how to make a suicide bomber vest. These are not the only "how-to-for-terrorists" videos being posted online.
In addition to the instructional videos being posted on the net, terrorists have made extensive use of advanced technology. Flight simulation machines were used by the terrorist pilots prior to the attacks on US soil on 9/11.
E-Training is a useful tool when in the proper hands. But like any powerful tool, it can quickly be turned around and used to harm those that are innocent.

  1. This is true. The e-learnings that my job provide are helpful in learning new material to use while at work. Although it is very easy to see how different material used in e-learnings can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

  3. Thanks to technology these days, many things became easy, accessible in no time or hassle. In the past if I have a question or need to learn how to fix something, or how to solve a mathematical problem, it takes me forever to get an answer, and I had to ask more than one person, some might answer, others makes you feel bad that you asked them help. Now, in one click and so convenient you can pretty much get an answer for any question you have. YouTube saved me hundreds of dollars, I learned how to change my car batteries, how to fix my broken iphone which suppose to cost me over 130 $ to fix it in store. So yes, e training and education has its positives and negatives which is depends on the user itself.

  4. E-training can be used in various ways apparently I sincerely doubt that the designers did not imagine such a drastic use of their product taking place, whenever the makers of Fight Simulator first started producing and selling their software.

  5. Yes I am sure if inventors had any idea that their products would be used for such activities we would not have all the great E-Training products we have today. I guess all we can do now is try to watch out for these type of threats and come up with new ways to prevent improper use of such E-Training tools. With morality at an all time low these days its sad to say but its too much to ask for people to just do the right thing.
